Our Nursery Cook

Our talented nursery cook, brings passion,
creativity, and care to every dish.

With years of experience in early years catering, our cook is not only skilled at preparing wholesome meals, but also takes the time to understand each child’s individual needs and preferences.

All snacks and meals at Brambley Cottage are freshly prepared daily in our kitchen, where food is both nourishing and a source of learning.

The children know our cook well and enjoy a close, friendly relationship with her. Along with our nursery practitioners, she teaches them about food hygiene and the importance of handling food appropriately.

The children regularly visit the kitchen to deliver their baking, cook their own pizzas, and help prepare their own tea—turning mealtimes into fun, hands-on learning experiences.

Food Safety
and Allergy
Management

We take food hygiene in nursery settings extremely seriously. All our staff complete food hygiene courses and our kitchen has consistently been awarded the highest food hygiene rating ('5') by our local council’s Food Standards Agency inspections.

Allergy Policy in Nursery

We maintain a robust food policy in a nursery setting that includes:

• Allergy-safe meal prep and separate utensils
• Individual dietary requirement records for every child
• Staff trained in allergy awareness and emergency procedures
• Clear communication with parents about any food changes

We understand that allergies at nursery can be a concern for parents — your child’s safety is our priority.

Accomodating individual preferences and providing flexibility

Children have their own tastes, routines, and needs. That’s why we work closely with parents to offer flexible meal options and accommodate:

• Cultural or religious dietary requirements
• Vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free diets
• Texture modifications for babies and toddlers
• Fussy eaters and sensory needs

We believe every child should feel safe, supported, and satisfied at mealtimes.

Yes — all meals are prepared in our kitchen daily by our experienced nursery cook, with the highest levels of hygiene and care.

Do I have to pay for nursery meals?

In most cases, nursery meals are provided as part of your child’s placement. However, if your child is in receipt of 3 and 4 year old funding then there is a charge of £6.60 per day or you can opt to bring your own food for the day.
